The "Next-Gen" era refers to an era of the Star Trek franchise where it's shows and movies had a singular shared aesthetic and design, first born out of [[Star Trek: The Next Generation]]. This era includes TNG, [[Star Trek: Deep Space Nine]], and [[Star Trek: Voyager]], but also includes [[Star Trek: Generations]], [[Star Trek: First Contact]], [[Star Trek: Insurrection]], and [[Star Trek: Nemesis]]. This era of production lasted roughly around 1986 to 2001, before the release of [[Star Trek: Enterprise]]. | |||
However, this era notably does NOT include [[Star Trek: Picard]], as in-universe, while they're very close to each other, the aesthetic has transitioned into a more modern 25th century design. Picard's designs take a lot of cues from the late TNG-era films, but is, for the intents of this wiki, a completely separate aesthetic.
