Michael Hideo Okuda served as the scenic art director for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and all of the Star Trek productions following it, up until Star Trek: Enterprise. As scenic art director, he oversaw many of the detailing passes on Star Trek sets and props, but the most famous of his contributions exist in the digital world, in the form of animated and printed graphics for the computer displays onboard starships. The most famous of these are his designs for Starfleet computer interface, which are culminated in a singular design known as LCARS. These graphics would later go on to be nicknamed Okudagrams by the crew, in honor of Mike's legacy. Mike's work also extended into the writing room, offering explanations for the functions of fictional devices in the Star Trek universe, and helping make sense of all the technobabble thrown around in an average Trek series.

Michael Okuda was married to fellow Trek crewmember Denise Okuda in 1993.[1] He and Denise work frequently with fellow Star Trek alumni Doug Drexler, and as a group, they have been seen working on and consulting with several Star Trek projects since their tenure ended with Star Trek: Enterprise in 2005. Together, the couple have written several guides, articles, and reference material about Star Trek, it's universe, and it's ever-expanding canon. In the 2010s, the trio consulted on the Star Trek: TOS and TNG remasters for Blu-Ray.
