The "Next-Gen" era refers to an era of the Star Trek franchise where it's shows and movies had a singular shared aesthetic and design, first born out of Star Trek: The Next Generation. This era includes TNG, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager, but also includes Star Trek: Generations, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Star Trek: Nemesis. This era of production lasted roughly around 1986 to 2001, before the release of Star Trek: Enterprise.

However, this era notably does NOT include Star Trek: Picard, as in-universe, while they're very close to each other, the aesthetic has transitioned into a more modern 25th century design. Picard's designs take a lot of cues from the late TNG-era films, but is, for the intents of this wiki, a completely separate aesthetic. We also do not consider Picard to have the same aesthetic as Star Trek: Discovery or Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, even though they were developed alongside each other.
